From Coach Eddie:
It’s been awhile since we’ve met at the bar, hasn’t it? Glad we agree. That just means it’s the perfect time for you and I, along with a few more like-minded athletes, to come together for the next 4 weeks and dive a little deeper into the sport of Olympic Weightlifting and get better with the barbell. For this session we will dig into the details of every lift and learn new drills that will help you improve both your Snatch, and Clean & Jerk lifts. We will discuss how certain changes in stance and grip can sometimes be the limiting factors keeping you from that new PR, as well as who your favorite Olympic Weightlifting athletes are. We will also have dedicated time to put your practice into play by eliminating the “For Time” pressure by moving a bit slower, allowing you to be better prepared for every lift and increasing your chances of success. The aim of this course is to help you build on the skills you already have, and further help you develop into a better weightlifter. Athletes will have the opportunity to work on positions and strength at home or open gym with accessory work to be performed during the week. All I need you to do is sign up. Come ready to play, and ready to learn. Ready to have fun. I don’t know if I said this before, but we’ll be lifting. So…….meet me at the bar. The bar…bell.

Xoxo- Eddie

A visit at Fiola Sports Chiropractic with Dr. Fiola and Dr. Bernstein is much different than your typical chiropractic experience.  The evaluation process is a specialized approach to detecting asymmetries, movement dysfunction and compensation patterns.  In all athletes, where there is compensation, it is not a matter of if there will be an injury, it is simply a matter of when.  Most of us will develop these compensation patterns as an adaptation to postural issues or “micro-traumas” that arise from our day-to-day lives, both at home, school and in the workplace.  We then walk into CrossFit with these patterns, and it changes the way we move through our workouts.

With our CrossFit athletes, we often find that a complex movement being done slightly wrong, A LOT of times, is what leads athletes down the road to injury.  Using manual therapy to correct and heal the damages muscles, while anchoring these changes with proper movement “re-education” has allowed us to keep our athletes in the gym and keep them healthy long term.

Fiola Sports Chiropractic blends traditional chiropractic treatments and services with advanced training and skills in Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.), Selective Functional Movement Assesment (SFMA) and the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), in order to offer patients the best in individualized care.  Our goal is to efficiently resolve sports injuries and educate our clients so that they can be the first line of defense against injuries moving forward through their sport.  When an athlete is shown what normal basic movement feels like, they are armed with the knowledge and ability to pick up on abnormal movement patterns and compensations well before an injury or performance deficit arises.

Treatments & Services include:

  • Active Release Techniques (A.R.T. certified provider)
  • Corrective Exercise
  • Cupping
  • Normatec Recovery System
  • Chiropractic therapy
  • Functional Movement Evaluation (SFMA)
  • KinesioTape Therapy
  • Titleist Performance Institute Golf Assessment and Training (TPI certified)

Dr. Fiola and Dr. Bernstein have worked with elite athletes across a wide range of sports to assess, detect, and correct acute injuries, chronic pain and performance deficits.  We have seen clients from a range of professional organizations including:

  • MLS
  • PGA
  • MLB
  • NHL
  • NBA
  • Nationally ranked gymnasts
  • Nationally ranked track and field athletes

More details about the JWBIII Foundation…
This year we will be raising funds for the JWBIII Foundation, a foundation created by Coach James and his family in honor of his dad!

The JWBrine III Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization. Our mission of keeping Jim’s spirit of giving alive by giving to others in their time of need is our main purpose. We have also given to other charitable organizations and have distributed many scholarships to high school seniors in the pursuit of a higher education. The generosity of individuals and groups will contribute directly to these causes. Please visit our website, follow us on Instagram at jwbrineiiifoundation and like us on our Facebook page during the year to find out about upcoming events and to keep informed on how this foundation, with the generous donations of our supporters, like you, are helping to aid others as they face difficult times. We thank you and think of each of you as we are able to make donations to others. Jim would be happy to know that his generous and kind spirit lives on through the JWBrine III Foundation.

All money raised will allow for the foundation to continue on in supporting families, communities, students, and organizations. Over the years we have donated to families who find themselves in difficult situations, to students through college scholarships, to other non profit organizations near and dear to our mission, to cancer research at Mass General Hospital, and so much more.

We cannot thank each of you enough for your support over the years. Your love inspires us every day and we find so much joy in knowing Jim’s love and spirit lives on in each of you.

July Athlete of the Month!

Marcelo Cavalcanti!

Hard Work Pays Off!
Congrats to Marcelo Cavalcanti on being our Athlete of the Month for July! Marcelo has been a dedicated, hardworking, and energetic member of the 6:30pm class! Since getting back Marcelo has committed to five days a week training and has accomplished double unders in workouts along with 20″ box jumps! Let’s give it up for Marcelo and if you see him make sure to congratulate him! Below we did a question and answer with him. Make sure to check it out to get to know Marcelo a little bit better!

Congrats Marcelo!

1. When did you first start at TILT?
I started on Memorial Day 2015! I was working on a project in Reston, VA and would spend a week there, then a week back in Marlborough, so I found our box here, and one in Reston, VA and joined both of them!

2. What is your favorite food?
It’s picanha, a cut of meat that is popular in Brazil, where I am from. It is known in the US as the top sirloin cap. I season it with coarse sea salt and that’s it. Throw it on the grill! You cook it with the fat to add flavor, but you slice off the fat before you eat it. Now that I’ve made you hungry, you can buy this cut at any of the Brazilian markets in the area.

3. If you could choose a superhero power, what would it be?
Since I travel a lot, it would be teleportation with also the ability to bring along people around me.

4. You just won a million dollars! What is the first thing you would purchase?!
I would purchase a week at a huge villa, with a chef, a bartender and a DJ in some island in the Caribbean right now. And, of course, you are all invited!

5. What is your favorite outdoor activity or hobby?
I love traveling to a beach destination and just lounging there. For physical activity I am enjoying the TILT outdoor classes with Eddie and Mick and looking forward to seeing all of the 6:30pm crew back!

6. Would you rather live on the beach or in a cabin on the mountains overlooking a lake?
I would rather live on the beach! I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, and all throughout high school I was at the beach every weekend and all summer long. I would take a bus from my parent’s apartment and be at the beach in 20 min, and spend pretty much the entire day there. We didn’t have cellphones, so we had this spot at the beach where all my friends would go to. You never knew who was going to be there, but then again you knew everyone was going to be there!

7. If you had any advice to give someone thinking about trying TILT what would it be?
Don’t even think twice, just go! Go with a friend to try it out! The coaches at TILT have an unbelievable positive mindset, and you always leave feeling better than you arrived, after the best hour of your day! Don’t even worry about the workout, as the coaches are awesome at helping you find modifications that will challenge you! And you will make great friends and memories there! Two of my favorite memories are when I was able to convince my wife Daniela and my daughters Julie and Christie to all come to a TILT class with me, and the multiple times Christie and I threw down together!
