When and how did you get started with CrossFit?
Lost a bet. I used to play a lot of pickup basketball to stay in okay kind of shape. Then my knees started hurting so I had to look for something else. I began swimming for a while, but while my cardio was okay, I was continuing to grow larger. In the meantime Rachel had me hanging out at some competitions, and I couldn’t help but notice how many people there had great bodies. Then Rachel made a bet with me that I had to do CrossFit for six months if the Patriots won fewer than 13 games that year. If they hadn’t tanked that game against the Bills I would have won. So I guess I can thank the Denver Broncos for making that win unnecessary. She knew if I went for six months I’d be hooked.

Favorite workout?/Least favorite workout?
Favorite workout: I don’t fixate on the specific workouts much. Probably something with heavy back squats and rowing. Least favorite workout: Karen. I hate wallballs.

What’s the first album you ever bought?
I’m pretty sure it was Class Clown by George Carlin. It has The Seven Dirty Words You Can Never Say on Television on it, which was quite scandalous at the time. A camp counselor had played it for us and I laughed so hard I cramped.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
Rick Barry’s free throw shooting style.

If you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be?
Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. (Does that count?)

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you want to have with you?
A guitar, a fully loaded kindle, and a boat.

What is one interesting fact that we may not know about you?
I actually learned to skate backwards from Bobby Orr. He was my childhood hero, and I got my parents to send me to his hockey camp. I was one of like three kids that couldn’t skate backwards and was having a miserable time of it. He just happened to be making a rare appearance on the ice with us that day, and he calmed me down and told me to just start wiggling my butt. I was so worked up at the time I didn’t even realize it was him until after I was moving backwards.
