Congrats to Meritza Kluge, our March Member of the Month!! Find out more about Meritza below…
Wow this is amazing! What an honor to be chosen as member of the month! I have seen how this practice has changed my perspective on fitness and health. I am honored to be picked as there are so many amazing athletes that I look up who go to CrossFit to create a better, stronger version of themselves.

1. When and how did you get started with CrossFit?
Scott and I saw a 60 minute program on CrossFit and then a day after happen to see a Groupon offer for CrossFit Union. I thought, if I don’t like it or think it’s not for me, it’s just a Groupon. At the time, we had moved to the area and were thrilled to be new parents but our kid didn’t sleep so we were walking zombies. I thought if we are up all the time how bad can a 5:30 am class be?! We stuck around taking turns on classes and I believe that was June 2015. I used to come 3 days a week and then a year ago I came every day! It’s been great for us! I have made great friends here and the atmosphere of the gym is great. I like that I can bring Sarah and it’s not a problem. Love all the coaches and the 5:30 am crew

2. What is your favorite workout/least favorite workout?
I love team workouts! I enjoy having Jamie Ana or Rachel challenge me! I get inspired by how hard they work and enjoy the camaraderie of seeing everyone working hard. I was even “star” struck one day I had Charlene as my team member—-I said I better keep up! I thought I was going to pass out but didn’t. Least favorite is anything with overhead squats.

3. What’s your favorite TILT tradition/event?
I love when we do Murph and honor our men and women in the military. I wish we had more women workouts named after the women who also have lost their lives defending this country. I love when people dress up! Our last costume throwdown was awesome.

4. What’s your favorite cheat food?
I love food. I guess my favorite cheat food would be a nice Italian dinner and a glass of Cabernet Savignon.

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Wow there are SO MANY PLACES I would love to go !! But one of them would be Egypt. I would love to see the pyramids and the ancient ruins. I have been intrigued by that and Machu Picchu in Peru. This year I am going to Israel so I am pretty excited and grateful about that

7. Tell us 3 things that we may not know about you…
When I was 12 my mom was pregnant and her water broke 1 week before her scheduled C section,  and we were alone. (In Venezuela -there is no 911) My dad was out of town and we only had one car. I managed to get my 5-yr-old sister ready, woke up our neighbor and called my mom’s doctor from a payphone to meet us! I didn’t realize until later on what a task that was and the rush of that experience made me decide I wanted to be a doctor and made every sacrifice possible to make that happen.

I was dared to do the Boston Polar Bear jump in Southie on the Charles New Years Day in 2012. I did it and it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

I used to rock climb and do rappelling in Merida, Venezuela (unbeknownst to my parents) my climbing days ended when I fell down a famous Andean mountain because my rappelling buddy got distracted and lost control of the rope. Luckily I had a few scrapes but that was it for me.
