Athlete of the Month
Congrats to Fred Distefano on being our Athlete of the Month for September! We asked Fred a few questions below to get to know him a little better! Congrats Fred!

1. When did you start CrossFit?
I started in July 2019. Prior to joining Tilt a few months ago I had never done anything like CrossFit before.

2. What is your favorite food?
Single favorite food has to be pizza. But if we’re considering the whole meal, nothing beats Thanksgiving in my book!

3. If you could choose a superhero power, what would it be?
The ability to string together dozens of burpees without turning into a puddle on the floor—kidding (not really). If I had answered this a few years ago, I probably would’ve said the ability to fly or something like that. Now that I have a toddler, I’d say the ability to read minds. This could help solve a lot of the challenges of parenting a 2 year old!

4. You just won a million dollars! What is the first thing you would purchase?!
I asked my wife this question and her immediate response was: “Patriots season tickets!” So I think I’d go with that. Maybe splurge and go with a luxury box so lots of family and friends can enjoy it as well.

5. What is your favorite activity to do outside of the gym?
I really enjoy spending time with my wife and our 2 year old daughter (the one whose mind we’d love to be able to read). When we’re not dancing to the Little Mermaid soundtrack (for the 10,000th time) we love taking trips to the beach, visiting family here in MA or in California, or just going on a family walk with the dog.

6. What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
So many of the individual movements are new to me so it’s hard to pick just one. A few workouts stick out in my mind as particularly memorable—”Always Remembered” (9/11 WOD), “Montana” (strict Holleyman+Row), and “Starsky & Hutch”.

7. If you had any advice to give someone thinking about trying CrossFit what would it be?
When I talk to people about CrossFit who have never experienced it, I typically get some combination of the following reactions: “isn’t that some sort of cult?”, “do you just flip tires and eat raw beef every morning?”, “wow, you must get hurt a lot.” Humor aside, the biggest misconception I see is that CrossFit is exclusively geared toward olympic level athletes. And while there are so many impressive athletes at Tilt, there is truly something for everyone. At my very first workout, Brady told me “whatever your goals are, you’ll reach them here”, and I think that sums up Tilt CrossFit extremely well. No matter who you are or what your motivation is for walking into Tilt, you will be challenged in the best ways possible, the coaching staff will meet you right where you’re at and the community will be incredibly supportive all along the way.
