Congrats to Tracey Parker, our January 2018 Member of the Month!! Find out more about Tracey below…

How did you get started with CrossFit? First of all it’s such an honor to get chosen as the January Member of the month. How did I get started in CrossFit?Well back about 5 years ago when Jo and Charlene decided to try out CrossFit I decided to come along with them. We all tried out a class together and then a few days later I found out I was pregnant with Brooklyn, so I decided to put CrossFit on hold until after my pregnancy. I stuck with running and doing some bootcamp classes until I was about 14 weeks pregnant with her and was then told I had to stop all exercise due to her pregnancy being high risk. After I had Brooklyn, I went back to running, and I trained for a marathon and I continue doing some bootcamp classes over at the field house. Being friends with Jo and Charlene I was always hearing about the workouts and I was so interested and intrigued! Ben actually joined before I did and then as an anniversary gift a few years ago he gave me a punch card to try it out. I was instantly hooked and now Ive been doing CrossFit for a little over 2 years.

What’s it like being able to workout with your husband and having your kids involved in CrossFit? I love that my whole family is involved in CrossFit.It’s fun to have something that everyone likes and we can talk about. The kids get excited during the open to watch the announcement of the workout and then watch the games. Logan keeps talking about Madison to watch the games. We all know how I feel about actually partnering in a workout with Ben…. but its nice to workout together sometimes. We don’t really go to the same class anymore since I go to the 9:30 now and he still goes early or after work. The kids love it, even Brooklyn. She’s going to be a strong little cross fitter in a few years! Its such a great community to raise the kids in and teach them such a healthy lifestyle.

What is your favorite WOD and why? Hmmm, I’m not sure if I have a favorite WOD. I love any WOD that involves dubs, box jump overs, or body weight stuff. I recently just did Cindy for the first time RX and loved it, until the next day when I couldn’t lift my arms…. I love Annie too. I’m still trying to get more confident with the barbell. I definitely like the longer workouts or chippers. Those short sprint workouts are brutal. I always love a good partner WOD!!

What’s your favorite local restaurant? I have to laugh at this question! With 4 kids, we rarely eat out!! So right now I’d have to say my favorite local restaurant is J&M Diner!! So glad they reopened!

What is your favorite animal and why? No question about it, my favorite animal is a dog. Dogs are the best. They’re so loyal. And mine will help me clean up the laundry after the kids leave it on the floor. No doubt about it, Jamie Denn has the best job out there! Maybe someday when Brooklyn goes to kindergarten I can go work with her.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why? If I could go anywhere in the world it would be back to Hawaii. Ive been there twice, once for our honeymoon and once a little over a year ago for a 4oth birthday trip. Hawaii is amazing. It is truly heaven on earth. I hope to someday get all the kids out there.

Tell us something we don’t know about you? Let’s see…. what don’t you know about me…..I’m originally from Rochester NY, where I went to a small, all girls high school and graduated in a class of 86 kids! I played soccer there with Abby Wambach (if you know anything about soccer you’ll know who she is) I then went onto West Virginia University with a student population of 25,000 at the time. One extreme to the other! It was there, my freshman year, that my roommates decided I needed a pet and got me a turtle, Stumpy, and he is still alive today…Turtles live FOREVER. Before my stay at home mom gig, I was a teacher. I’ve run 2 marathons, one with Charlene and Jo and one 9 months after having Brooklyn. I also used to do a few triathlons, that is until I fell off my bike going out for a training ride and broke my elbow…..And I am extremely afraid of heights so anytime we do rope climbs I fear I am going to fall to my death or break something.
