Find out a little more about Nate…
I was a distance swimmer from the age of 7 until I hung up my goggles in 2010 at the age of 36. I decided that I wanted to translate long distance swimming into long distance running and finally “learn” how to run.  I had always tried running but, because I had no idea what I was doing, it was always a struggle and I was always getting injured.  So, I took on a coach in 2010 and he not only completely transformed me into a runner, he taught me mindfulness and efficiency as I prepared for my first 100 in 2012. Nowadays, at age 47, I am a running ambassador for Team RunRun and I am coached by Matt Urbanski (2021 Tarawera 100 Winner) who has continued to level up my game (In the past 6 months I have crushed my PRs in the marathon, 50k, 50m and 100k distances after making new changes to my stride).  Even 11 years later, I find that I am still very much of a student of the sport and it helps that I am my own best test subject.  In 2021 I am focused on 8 major races including Anchor Down 24 Hour in August and Midstate Massive 100 in October.  I am also planning several solo long runs including a 120 from my house to Orleans, MA in June.  I have come to learn that running well involves hard work but it also requires attention to detail and willingness to change and try new approaches.  I love sharing the information and secrets that I have come to learn and that have been passed down to me over the years and am psyched to be able to positively impact others in running.

July 17th, 2020

2. What is your favorite food?
The Lousianna Po ‘Boy sandwich from Ribizza (RIP) and recreated at the Triple Rock (RIP) in Minneapolis. Which is nothing like any sandwich found in Louisiana, but is amazing. Sausage or pulled pork, fried potatoes, onions, jalepenos, garlic mayo, Cajun seasonings, cheese on top of grilled French bread.

3. If you could choose a walkout theme song, what would it be?
Prince, Baby I’m a Star

4. You just won a million dollars! What is the first thing you would purchase?!
A house in Vermont near skiing and a lake.

5. What is your favorite outdoor activity or hobby?
Skiing in winter. Paddleboarding in summer.

6. What is your ideal vacation place?
A lake in the mountains, somewhere with a really good grocery and gastropub nearby.

7. If you had any advice to give someone thinking about trying TILT what would it be?
Go for it. Seriously. Start today. It is 100% fun, 0% awkward. The coaches and members create a really friendly and welcoming environment. And the coaches can scale and modify the workouts so they’re right-size for wherever you’re at.

The 500/1000 Club!

We are excited to announce the addition of the 500 and 1000 Club at TILT Sudbury!

How do I become a part of the club?

January Athlete of the Month

Athlete of the Month

Congrats to Nicole Foreman on being our Athlete of the Month for February! Whether she comes for class in person or virtual, she always brings her best effort and works very hard! We asked Nicole of a few fun questions below to get to know her a little better!

1. When did you first start at TILT?
I first started at TILT in October of 2017, but I began doing CrossFit in May of 2015.

2. What is your favorite food?
I’m one of those annoying people who eat to live rather than live to eat, so all my favorite foods are snacks. I absolutely love Reese’s peanut butter cups and firmly believe the egg-shaped ones are the crème de la crème of all Reese’s products. In the last year I was also lucky enough to be introduced to “fancy cheese” (aka goat cheese with heated fig jam on top) by the Bronsons and that has become a staple in my weekend snack list.

3. If you could choose a walkout theme song, what would it be?
I’ve never thought about choosing a walkout theme song. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan so I would probably choose something by her like Shake It Off or Blank Space. I might also go a completely different direction and choose something like My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy.

4. You just won a million dollars! What is the first thing you would purchase?!
The first thing I would do with a million dollars is refurnish my house. I bought a condo about a year and a half ago and I was lucky enough to inherit a full household of furniture. The hand-me-down furniture has been incredible, but I’d want to add more of my own personal style into the house.

5. What is your favorite outdoor activity or hobby?
I love hanging out on the beach and just relaxing in the sunshine. During the pandemic, I also learned I really enjoy going for a walk outside to get both some exercise and some fresh air. I want to become a person who hikes but I really despise places that don’t have indoor plumbing, so we’ll see.

6. What is your ideal vacation place?
Right now, my ideal vacation place would be anywhere that is not my house. In usual times, I look to vacation to warm places where I can lay on the beach, go swimming or enjoy a boat ride. I’d also love to travel overseas and experience different cultures.

7. If you had any advice to give someone thinking about trying TILT what would it be?
Take the leap! TILT offers so many ways for you to try our community and our workouts risk-free, so why not jump in? I think TILT is unique in that the community is truly nonjudgmental. We all want the best for each other, and we all understand that we’re at different places in our fitness journeys. Whether you want to compete in the CrossFit Games or simply pick up your grandkids, our coaches and community will help you get there!

  • The Affiliate Cup is a fun new way to participate in the CrossFit Open! We would love to have everyone join in on the fun. Please include your t-shirt size and most attended class on the sign-up sheet. You do not need to register for the Open to participate.
  • Once registered, we will place you on a team with TILT members and a coach. Each team will be designated by a specific color (gold or platinum). Teams will receive their team shirt/color before March 12th.
  • Over a three-week period, CrossFit HQ will release three classic and accessible workouts that can be performed by participants of any ability level. There will be limited equipment and bodyweight options (very similar to the workouts TILT is already doing!) Each week, on Thursday night, the weekly workout will be announced. The first workout will be announced on Thursday, March 11th.
  • Once announced, TILT coaches will go head to head with each other on the workout on Thursday night after the workout is released. It will be live streamed through our TILT Zoom link directly after the workout is released. (coaches live stream workout will most likely start at 8:30pm) *See match-ups below*
  • On Friday, during all classes, participants will have a chance to throw down on the Open workout during all classes. This will be the first opportunity to receive points for your team!
  • Team members will also have the opportunity to earn additional points for their team – see below.

You earn 1 Point for:

  1. Doing the Open Workout in class on Friday (in-person or virtual)
  2. Judging someone in class on Friday (virtual classes receive automatic point regardless)
  3. Wearing your team color in class on Friday
  4. Posting a score or comment to the blog. Or..posting a post workout selfie on our TILT Accountability Facebook page.
*Max points per week = 4 points

Mental Toughness Seminar w/ Coach Mick

MENTAL TOUGHNESS SEMINAR

When: Sunday February 7th, 14th, and 21st @ 8:00am-9:00am
Where: CrossFit TILT II (31 Union Avenue – Sudbury, MA)
Cost: $75/person
How to Sign-up: Email Brian at brian@crossfittilt.com to sign-up!

What to Expect:
This seminar is geared towards taking on challenging workouts and staying focused and positive. We will work on pushing through uncomfortable times in workouts and talk about how to go into workouts with a positive attitude and mindset. These sessions will build your mental muscle and take on those workouts that scare or intimidate you! There is no better time with the 2021 CF Open coming up to bring effort and jump into a challenging workout with a better, more positive mindset. When it comes to workouts or taking on difficult tasks, you need a plan of attack, a clear mind, and a positive attitude.

Each session will be based around an open workout. Included in these sessions will be tips on mindset, motivation, strategy, pacing, modifications, and more! Following each workout, there will be a breakout session to reflect. The goal of this seminar is to build your mental muscle and be more confident going into workouts with a positive mindset!

From Coach Mick:
Showing up to the gym is a simple thing to do but bringing effort everyday you enter the door of the gym is an effort- a mental effort. Your mind controls your body and down inside you, you control your thoughts and feelings. Words become action. What you think can help or hinder your performance in your workout. Let’s take these challenges head on!

CrossFit is not just a workout. I believe CrossFit can change your life and give you the added confidence and belief in yourself that you can accomplish your goals. You just need to plan on how to attack them and adjust your mind to believe you can and will. I’ve been through a lot in my own life and CrossFit has helped get me through many struggles. It has taken me from some very bad, dark places and into a life filled with hope and passion. So, please join me for this seminar and take on 2021 on the right foot! Here’s to being a better you!
