Join CrossFit TILT and Cops for Kids as we support Camila Chacon in her battle with cancer!
When:
Sunday, March 10th @ 9:30am
What: Please join us on March 10th for a special workout at TILT Sudbury for Jose Chacon’s daughter, Camila! Come on out to show your support for Camila and take part in a family friendly workout! The local non-profit charity Cops for Kids with Cancer will be starting out the day by donating $5,000 dollar donation to Camilla and her family! Cops for Kids with Cancer’s primary mission is to remove some financial burden so all their energies can go toward helping their child beat cancer and live a healthy life.

Camila’s Story:
In May of 2018, one of our TILT members, Jose Chacon and his family received devastating news that their 17-month-old daughter, Camila, had a brain tumor. After a biopsy of the mass Camila was diagnosed with a high-grade, mid-line glioma, in the past classified as a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).

DIPG is a rare form of cancer that occurs mostly in childhood with 150 – 200 children diagnosed every year. It affects the brain stem, and more specifically the pons, which is the center for controlling vital functions like swallowing, heart rate and breathing. DIPG remains the last of the cancers with a 100% mortality rate and no standard treatment.

With so little options, The Chacon Family, decided to opt out of the palliative radiation Camila was offered and focus on holistic tactics to support her body and immune system to identify and fight the cancer as well as improve her quality of life.

Some of her alternative treatments include a therapeutic ketogenic diet, various supplements and CBD/THC oils. These treatments are not necessarily accepted by the larger medical community so have cost a lot of out of pocket expense. The Chacon’s have received advice and outside consultations from various organizations and doctors that specialize in these alternative treatments to help monitor Camila and her health. With all these alternative treatments, Camila still visits the Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston for routine scans and appointments and the family continues to keep their eyes and ears open for promising clinical trials.

As the Chacon Family approaches the 10-month time period of Camila’s diagnosis, for a cancer that has a median 9-month survival rate, they are extra thankful for her stability, happiness and the time they get to enjoy with Camila and watching her grow up. The Chacon’s have already been able to go to Disney World, visit family in Wisconsin and plan on going to Guatemala this Summer to visit even more family. Every moment is precious, and The Chacon’s are so very thankful for all the support the community continues to show, and more specifically, their Warrior Princess – Camila.
