Athlete of the Month
Congrats to Elaine on being our Athlete of the Month for October! We asked Elaine a few questions below to get to know her a little better!

1. When did you start CrossFit?

I started my CrossFit journey at a now-defunct, kinda sketchy gym in Marlboro, way back in 2012. I was super intimidated and always hurting, but loved the people. I finally left there after a winter when the gym had no heat – at all – and we’d have to set up our kettlebell and barbells in front of a very dangerous propane-fire heater to warm them up to a manageable degree. While the gym had a no-weightlifting-gloves philosophy, we all wore mittens. Then I moved to CrossFit Framingham and met up with another great group of people, many of whom are now at Tilt. I fractured my leg in December 2016 (falling while hiking with my dog in loose snow), and called Tilt II a few months later to inquire about easing back via boot camp. As luck would have it, boot camp had just been discontinued, so Brian encouraged me to try the 9:30 class. I came and I’ve never looked back. I love the coaches, the athletes, and the programming. It’s great to feel good enough to work out every day of the week!

2. What is your favorite food?

Spaghetti and meatballs, Italian bread with butter, and chocolate cake with white frosting!

3. If you could choose one superhero power, what would it be?

With all the time I spend lamenting that I’ll never make it to Rx, I guess I’d like Super-Human Strength!

4.You just won a million dollars! What is the first thing you would purchase?

I’d buy a house with a private beach, so my Labrador Retriever would have year-round access to the water and sand, and I could read without any distractions.

5. What is your favorite activity to do outside of the gym?

I love to cook and I love to read. I am happiest when I’m with my husband and three kids (22, 21, 17), doing something outdoors: skiing all winter, beach bumming all summer, and hiking all year round with my pup!

6.What is your favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlifts are my strongest lifts, so deadlift days make me happy. Thruster days do not.

7. If you had advice to give someone thinking about trying CrossFit, what would it be?

Do it – it’s great for your mind and your body! The extraordinary coaches at Tilt will meet you where you’re at. James has great technical advice; Casey always comes up with the perfect cue to help you make your lift; Mick is all that AND has the best playlists! The athletes are inspiring because they do amazing things, but more importantly because of how hard they work. You will make great friends who will push you beyond what you think you can do, or encourage you to cut yourself some slack. It’s a community that stays with you and inside your head long after you leave the gym for the day. Thanks for letting me be part of it!
