Congrats to our May Member of the Month, Berkeley O’Keefe!
Learn more about Berkeley below..
1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
A year and half. I started just after New Years last year when Jo and Jon and Tracey and Ben convinced me, over day drinks, to do the January nutrition challenge. I think I went 25 out of the 31 days that first month and was one of the challenge winners. I guess there was CF cool aid at that party.
2. If there was a Berkeley workout, what would it be?
I actually like Helen on a boat. But I also really like the barbell. I finally got an 85# squat snatch a few days before I tore my rotator cuff skiing, so I am really looking forward to getting back to that. I do hate burpees, so I plan to channel Katrin and work on my weaknesses as soon as I can get back to them.
3. Top 3 movies of all time.
Dumb and Dumber, Castaway, Condorman
4. Top 3 workout songs.
Van Halen-Jump, Sail-Awolnation, something country I guess.
5. Describe a perfect day in the life of Berkeley..
A day on our boat, swimming, discovering quiet beach spots, fishing and rum punch with family and friends!! No doubt, a bad day on the ocean is better then a good day on land!
6. What class do you normally take? Who do you like to throw down with?
I typically hit 9:30a. It’s a great crew, many of whom got me started with CrossFit. Too many people to list, but everyone is awesome! Many helped get me to the gym after surgery, and I look forward to seeing everyone everyday. It’s such a fun crew!
7. Any last words to the TILT community?
Tilt is the best! In the early days after surgery I was pretty depressed. I had been looking forward to my second open but instead I was in a sling and feeling like garbage. This whole crew was very encouraging and Brian was, and still is, fantastic at modifying things for me to keep me coming in. If it wasn’t for TILT I would still be on the couch feeling sorry for myself but instead I’m at the gym 5-6 days a week getting fitter, even with one arm. I’m happy to say I am back to cleaning a barbell and even did my first strict pull-up since the middle of January. My next goal, although lofty, is to make it to the master’s qualifier when I hit 45. It’s a long way to go, but I have three years to get there.
