Workout Guidance:
Today we have a wildly simple kettlebell workout. I don’t know that anyone is going to be able to do this workout without putting the kettlebell down, although I’m sure some people will try. One of the primary benefits of doing goblet squats with a kettlebell as opposed to a dumbbell, is that the goblet position of the kettlebell places the weights further forward. This makes the movement more challenging because it means that our back has to work harder to keep us upright during the squat. Combine this with a kettlebell swing and we have a workout that’s going to light up our backs. This is not a bad thing. We’re used to feeling a pump in our arm or our shoulders, but the feeling of the lower back muscles getting pumped tends to be alarming for some people. While back pain should be taken seriously, we should learn to tell the difference between structural pain and muscular discomfort. Ultimately, we can view a lower back pump as a good thing, as it means we’re targeting the muscles which will provide more safety and stability for our spines as they get stronger.
